Custom-made formliners

Design architectural concrete

If a unique concrete pattern is meant to adorn the façade, custom-made formliners by RECKLI are the perfect choice. Architects and planners can let their creativity run free to create exposed concrete themselves according to their visions.

In our in-house carpenter workshop, a mold for the concrete designing is made from the customer’s drawings and wishes, which serves as the model for the formliner. The finished formliner can then be used to manufacture pre-cast concrete elements or used directly at the construction site when designing a façade.

Custom-made formliners have also proven themselves in the restoration of historical buildings, since they reproduce complex motifs true to detail in exposed concrete and are easy on the budget thanks to their reusability.

Limitless freedom in façade design

Custom-made formliners combine uniqueness with economic efficiency: Any imaginable design can be installed on to a façade with the elastic forms.

Extension to the Art Museum in Chur

The extension to the Kunstmuseum in Chur seems to be a glaring contrast to the main building - but subtle parallels bring the two buildings into harmony. The façade plays a decisive role in this.

Production methods

Custom-made concrete designs are implemented in our in-house shape and mold department. In an interplay of ultra-modern technology and traditional handicraft, the mold is created: The CNC cutter translates the drawings onto board material, and surfaces, edges and seams are smoothed by hand. Molds for complicated concrete shapes and designs such as ornaments or emblems are often made entirely by hand. After an in-depth quality control, the formliner is cast on the mold and afterwards makes its way toward the customer.

01

The original form is either molded out of plaster or is produced with the support of a computer: the image model and digital drawings are transferred into a file for the CNC-mill by a computer. It cuts the pattern into board material.

02

The plaster- and mill-cast is sealed with a release wax and provided with a forming frame. Subsequently, a liquid elastomer is poured onto the cast to produce the formliner.

03

After the synthetic solidifies, the forming frame can be removed. The high elasticity of the formliner enables a reproduction of the pattern that is true to detail and makes it robust enough to be reused multiple times (up to 100 times).

04

The formliner is glued to the mold and waxed with release agents before the concrete is cast.

05

The formliner can be used at the precast plant and in the in-situ concrete.

06

After the concrete has hardened, the element can be removed with no problem. The formliner is ready to use again, up to 100 times depending on the type.
