Photo engraving formliners transform concrete faƧades into expressive surfaces. Using digital data, photos and graphics are translated into CNC files that form the basis for the positive model. The milling process transfers every nuance of the motif into depth and texture, creating a relief that feels as if the image were carved directly into the concrete.
Depending on the original image, the surface can appear finely detailed or artistically abstract. The result is a lasting visual effect that unites craftsmanship, technology, and architectural design.

Images That Emerge with Light and Perspective
The impression changes throughout the day and from every viewpoint. In direct sunlight, the image recedes into subtle structure; in lateral light, shadows accentuate contours and bring the motif vividly to life. As the viewer moves, the perspective shifts, lines appear and dissolve, details emerge or fade. The faƧade becomes a dynamic image space that responds to both light and motion, revealing something new with every glance.
Manufacturing Process
01

A photograph or graphic serves as the basis for the model. It is converted into a digital file with 256 gradations of grey. Each tonal value defines the depth of the milled relief. The CNC machine then transfers the digital data onto the wooden master model.
02

After milling, the wooden master model is treated with a release agent and enclosed within a frame. Liquid elastomer is subsequently cast onto the surface to create the photo engraving formliner.
03

Once the elastomer has cured, the frame is removed. The high elasticity of the formliner ensures precise reproduction of the texture and provides sufficient durability for repeated use ā up to 100 casts.
04

The formliner is securely fixed to the formwork and prepared with a release agent before concreting.
05

Concrete can be poured into the prepared formliner either on site or at a precast facility.
06

Once the concrete has cured, the panels are demoulded. The formliner can then be reused ā up to 100 times.
